Screen Size and Design

There are four iPhone 12 models available in the market with different sizes, the iPhone 12 Mini, the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. By review, there are only three iPhone 11 with different sizes, the iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro, and the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 are the same in size which is 6.1 inches, but their weight is different. The iPhone 12 weighs about one ounce less than the iPhone 11.

The iPhone 12 comes in five colors, white, black, blue, green, and red. The iPhone 11 comes in six colors, black, white, green, red, purple, and yellow.

The iPhone 12 has the edge for being somewhat silkier and visually appealing.  Both are IP68 rated for water resistance, have no earphone jack, and have wireless charging capabilities.

iPhone 11 has an all-screen front and a bezel around the screen that’s a little thicker than the iPhone 12’s, round corners, curved aluminum sides, and a sleek glass back.

As compared to the LCD of the iPhone 11, the iPhone 12 has an OLED display, magnetic support that works with new MagSafe chargers and accessories, and a robust screen that is supported by ceramic. The 12 also has a totally flat design along the edges with no raised buttons, as the iPhone 11 has.

The iPhone 12 has a new ‘Ceramic Shield’ glass which is used on the front also, and which Apple says is four times extra resistant to damage if the phone is fallen. But both phones are officially rated at IP68.

Display

Both the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 12 refresh at 60 frames per second, or 60Hz. Both have a 6.1-inch screen with wide color P3 gamut support. Apple’s True Tone tech is comfier for viewing in artificial light and offers a 625 nits brightness.

The iPhone 11 uses LCD screen with a resolution of 1792×828 (326 ppi), whereas the iPhone 12 uses an OLED screen at 2532×1170 (460 ppi). The OLED screen is HDR-enabled together with Dolby Vision which the iPhone 11 doesn’t support.

With HDR video content, the iPhone 12 can hit high spot brightness of 1,200 nits that’s more than any OLED TV can handle. It simply means that for HDR video, this is one of the best devices, for sure. You can see the clear difference in sharpness.

Color accurateness for both iPhone 11 and 12 is admirable. So there’s a customary difference between LCD and OLED. OLED has a tendency to pick up more color cast when watched at an angle. LCD can’t match the deep black levels and dynamic OLED range.

I would add one more thing that neither device support refresh rates higher than 60Hz. None of them.

Camera

iPhone 11 vs iPhone 12

Because of the great Night Mode and next-generation Smart HDR, the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 proved to be among the best camera phones. So, it is difficult to tell the difference because both phones feature a dual-camera rear setup, with a wide-angle and ultra-wide, both 12MP. Both have OIS, and support Apple’s Night Mode and Deep Fusion tech.

The iPhone 11’s is f/1.8. (Both ultra-wide lenses are f/2.4) while the iPhone 12’s wide-angle lens has an f/1.6 aperture. The iPhone 12’s images are better but you’d only know when looking side-by-side. This is because its handling light and dark in a single photo that is noticeably better quality. Otherwise, there’s not much difference.

When it about the video, the iPhone 12 has a momentous improvement as it can take Dolby Vision HDR video, which is an amazing achievement. It’s the only customer camera of its type to do this. It shoots in HLG and then converts rapidly to Dolby Vision upon saving the video.

It undoubtedly makes videos taken on the phone look unbelievable on the phone, but they don’t export easily somewhere else while retaining the full Dolby Vision impression. It’s a killer feature as you’ll have to make the great struggle to make full use of it.

Both iPhones can record up to 4K 60fps, or 1080p up to 240fps. Both have Apple’s notable video stabilization that makes hand-held video operational.

The iPhone 12 Pro features a triple-camera setup containing ultra, wide, and telephoto lenses. It also supports Night mode when using portrait mode, made by the all-new LiDAR Scanner.

Another basic difference is that the 12 Pro features support Apple’s new ProRAW photo format. It gives iPhone photographers more control over their images and new tools for post-processing.

Battery

Although Apple doesn’t reveal the battery capacity, it is tested that the iPhone 11 lasted about 14 hours and iPhone1 12 battery lasted more than 17 hours.

Conclusion - iPhone 11 vs iPhone 12

I never recommend anything to users as it depends on you what you want to get, or what’s your requirement, budget, and usage. Both phones are best in their own way. iPhone 12 is the better phone for creatives because of its higher-res HDR screen that’s a clear improvement, the camera is superior and offers Dolby Vision recording. In fact, the iPhone 12 is the better phone.

iPhone 11 is also a good option which is around 25% low-cost. The iPhone 11’s screen offers the same kind of color accurateness, the camera is also the best, and it’s still enormously well made.
